“Kampung” means “village” in Malay. As the name suggests, Kampung durian originates from trees that were originally grown from unknown seeds in rural areas. While the exact history of these durians remains a mystery, one thing is certain: they are delicious, and many people adore their wonderful taste.
Depending on the type of kampung, the flavour profile can vary significantly. Interestingly, within the same durian, different segments can exhibit both sweet and bitter flavours.
While some connoisseurs appreciate the unpredictable flavour profiles, others might consider it unstable. For instance, seeds that face away from the sun might be more bitter and pungent than those basking in sunlight. This uniqueness contributes to its authenticity as the most original durian variety.

D10

D10 durian, also known as ‘Green Head,’ is a mid-season fruit. Its husk is an expectant shade of green and the thorns on D10 are small and short, akin to those found on the red prawn durian.
D10 offers a fascinating blend. Imagine a touch of bitterness with hints of alcohol, all wrapped up in a creamy milkiness. It packs quite a strong punch with its relatively small seeds. Some durian enthusiasts even compare its taste to varieties like Musang King.

D2

The D2 Dato Nina durian is one of the few early registered durians in Malaysia, dating back to 1934. D2 typically has a greenish-bronze husk and a short shelf life due to its thin skin, which is, however, surprisingly hard to open.
D2 Dato Nina strikes a balance between bitterness and sweetness. It features golden flesh and a moderately astringent flavour. Some describe it as having hints of cream cheese. While not as famous as Musang King, it is gaining a strong following. In fact, it’s so good that most people immediately get another D2 Durian because one is simply not enough, especially considering its short season.
